Wealth Management with a Certified Financial Planner
Wealth means different things to different people. It may not always be measured in financial terms either. Every person’s circumstances are different and they have their own unique goals in life. We understand that.
We work with you to define your life goals, chart out a path to make it happen and then structure your financial assets to help achieve them.
At Athena Wealth we believe in FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT for all. Financial empowerment starts with you being aware of your attitude and feelings about money and wealth. Any gaps in knowledge on your finances can sometimes make you feel vulnerable.
We work with you to understand biases you may have and to CLOSE THE GAP in knowledge that you need to make financial decisions.
Education and awareness builds confidence in you to make informed, rational decisions that help in achieving life goals that are of the highest priority for you.
We are passionate about wiping out the gender wealth gap that exists in New Zealand.
Our name symbolises WISDOM and RATIONAL THOUGHT, which are integral to how we create practical financial plans, personalised to you.
Our investment philosophy is to create SUSTAINABLE solutions to suit your personal circumstances that YOU have CONTROL over. We are also fiercely INDEPENDENT of product and service providers. The only financial compensation we receive is from YOU, our client - so nothing interferes with our decisions.
After all, it’s ALL ABOUT YOU.
We work with clients from all over NZ, offering financial planning and investment management services.

Our Principal Financial Planner - Sumita Paul
Financial Adviser (FSP 118344)
Certified Financial Planner CM (CFPCM)
Member of the Trustees & Executor Institute (METI)
I started my career as a Financial Adviser with AMP Financial Services in Takapuna, Auckland in 1998. Later I joined Guardian Trust (Perpetual Guardian) and built my expertise in trusts and estate planning alongside managing investment portfolio for individuals, multi-generation families and philanthropic organisations.
An integral part of my success as a Financial Planner and Trust Manager comes from my conviction in the importance of understanding my clients’ beliefs, motivations, expectations and big picture view of life. This has consistently helped me create practical solutions and establish plans that achieve my clients’ financial goals.
After working within corporates for almost two decades, I went on to help setup a funds management business as part of its founding team. Having done so I moved on to a privately held founder led independent financial planning business, before setting up Athena Wealth.
I am a qualified Financial Adviser, a Certified Financial PlannerCM (CFPCM) and a member of the Executor and Trustee Institute. I hold a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies (Personal Financial Planning Endorsement) , Massey University and a National Certificate in Financial Services. Early in my career I gained a Masters in Business Administration (MBA). (Read our Disclosure Statement)
I am also an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) helping trustees of family and charitable trusts. My keen interest in Behavioural Finance led me to complete the Investment Decision and Behavioural Finance course at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Outside work I give my time and expertise as a Trustee of the Grief Centre.
